Group Retreats

Retreats & Studio

The perfect venue for creative & wellbeing workshops

With the Studio and outdoor covered deck for gathering and workshop space as well as seven Roulottes, Horseshoe Cottage with Ruby for participants to stay, Roulotte Retreat offers a unique venue for groups and events. Additional  hot tubs and saunas amidst the wildflower meadow in the heart of the Scottish Borders sets the scene for a relaxed gathering in a natural environment.

Throughout the year Roulotte Retreat occasionally offers retreats so you can chill out, have fun and learn something new at the same time. We have many ideas and we welcome your thoughts too, so do write and tell us. In recent years we have offered yoga, mindfulness, foraging, creative writing, photography, art workshops, walking, gin tasting and music. However, you don't have to be part of a group or a themed break to enjoy the many activities, please let us know and we can help you organise your stay with your favourite things to do, just for you.

For more information see 'Studio' below and please contact us for more details.

Group activities

Yoga & Wellbeing

Practise Yoga outdoors in the fresh air, greeting the sun in the morning. Ease those tired joints, discover the power of the breath, stretch and flex your body as well as calm your mind with Avril Berry, Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist. We can also recommend other local therapists if you'd like a massage when you are here.

Walking

Walkers are spoiled for choice – the Eildon Hills, right on our doorstep, Cheviots, Lammermuirs and the Moorfoots all offer excellent hill-walking opportunities. The Scottish Borders Walking Festival celebrates a different area each year where you can join in guided walks. St Cuthbert's Way is right alongside Roulotte Retreat, there's also the Borders Abbeys Way, Southern Upland Way and the Pennine Way if you wish to follow established routes or simply stroll along the River Tweed or through the local woodlands.

There are a number of close by walking and hiking trails. Details of local walks will be provided on the noticeboard in the carpark or feel free to research more before you arrive - see links below.

Creative

Creative writing – The Scottish Borders has a rich literary heritage with famous authors including: Sir Walter Scott, John Buchan, James Hogg the Ettrick Shepherd and more.  Tap into that creative energy and enjoy time out on your own or bring a group to put pen to paper and unleash that creative stallion within.

Arts & Crafts – Visits to local studios and craft workshops are great sources of inspiration as well as excellent retail therapy. Some local artists offer courses in drawing, painting, watercolours, sculpture, pottery, printing, woodworking, etc.

Cycling

Cycling is excellent around the Scottish Borders, bring your own bicycles or we can help to organise cycle hire or electric cycle hire locally. You can explore the many meandering B roads nearby, stopping off at cafes, taking in the view at a relaxed pace, or head for the infamous 7stanes and mountain biking terrain of Glentress, Innerleithen and Newcastleton.

The Studio

What once was an exhibition space in Glasgow in 1952 and Dryburgh Abbey's Gift Shop for decades is now a beautiful, light-filled Studio, complete with chandeliers, low level Moroccan lighting, wood burning stove at its heart and an outdoor covered wooden deck.

What a magical transformation this space has enjoyed as it embarked upon the next stage of its life's journey as a unique Venue at Roulotte Retreat. Nestled amidst Scots Pines next to the meadow The Studio offers group space for workshops, gatherings, celebrations, events and boutique weddings for groups who are staying at Roulotte Retreat. Beautiful by day with light coming in from all directions the space comes into its own at night with solar fairy lights and lanterns adorning the branches of the Scots Pine which emerges through the deck creating an enchanting atmosphere, ideal for al fresco dining and events with a difference.
